The CLUMondo model is a spatially explicit and dynamics land system change model

CLUMondo is based on the land systems approach. Land systems are socio-ecological systems that reflect land use in a spatial unit in terms of land cover composition, spatial configuration, and the management activities employed. The precise definition of land systems depends on the scale of analysis, the purpose of modelling, and the case study region. In contrast to land cover classifications the role of land use intensity and livestock systems are explicitly addressed. Each land system can be characterized in terms of the fractional land covers.

An example for a Local scale land systems classification for Laos is provided below. land systems are characterized based on the amount of forest in the landscape mosaic and the management type ranging from swidden cultivation to permanent cultivation and plantations.

The CLUMondo is distributed as freeware and can be downloaded together with a tutorial through the links at the bottom of this website It is not possible to provide support on the application unless in the context of collaborative projects.

How to use CLUMondo in your project?

Unfortunately we are not able to assist everybody interested in CLUMondo in their implementation of the model for his/her project. Because the model requires both advanced insight in the functioning of the land use system in a particular case study as well as advanced knowledge of GIS and modelling it is difficult to implement the model without prior experience in advanced spatial analysis. If you are interested in exploring the basic functioning of the model it is possible to download the free version of the CLUMondo model and test the functioning based on the tutorial. In addition we provide, for those interested, the source code of the (command line version) of the software to you.

Instructions for installation
After downloading the file CLUMondo_1.4.0_setup.exe you can double click on this file and a setup wizard opens. This wizard will guide you through the setup process. In case the license file is not automatically installed, you need to download the license file below and select it manually when asked for. An example application for Laos is included in this setup, and a manual with exercises can be downloaded as well. This manual uses the Laos example application. The reference for this version is:
